Take a Look at Some of Our Work!

Self-Portraits

Near the end of the first grade year, I ask the students to draw their self-portrait using Microsoft's Paint program. The mirrors are pulled out and off we go! Every year I am absolutely amazed at how well the students do with their drawings! Have you ever tried to draw with a mouse? It's not that easy!!

When all are finished, the illustrations are pulled together to create a collage. Each student receives this memory of their class self-portraits. Below is their work.

The first graders have written and illustrated some wacky pictures following the reading of Wacky Wednesday by Dr. Seuss. There were several students absent that day so if you don't see your child's work, that's the reason! Also, some of the students were extremely quiet as they recorded so listen closely!

Another hunt - this time for shapes! Visit Where Can We Find Shapes to read about this adventure. You'll also see collages of the students searching for shapes and then creating their shape collages.

Read Going On a Noun Hunt to discover how the first graders created collages of nouns found around the campus.

Making Predictions:
We practiced making predictions by reading It Could Have Been Worse by A.H. Benjamin then using the Drawing Pad and Book Creator apps. Read more about the process in the blog post, Making Predictions with First Graders. The books were created in two formats: video and ePub book to be downloaded and read in iBooks.

What will happen to Mouse and Snake? by Mrs. Hutchinson's Class

What will happen to Mouse and Fox? by Mrs. Kee's Class

What will happen to Mouse and Fish? by Mrs. Orehek's Class
